Haley is on her way home! I can't wait to see her. We miss her lots!
This past weekend was all about peaches! I got a huge basket of peaches and then had to "do" stuff with them. I made fresh peach jelly, peach cobbler, spiced peaches (for my FIL and Haley) and then froze some for smoothies. YUM!

3 weeks
I have to admit that my life may be too boring to blog about more than once a week!
Mike and I were really busy last weekend. First we made a stop at the "daddy store" (aka Best Buy) and made a very important purchase!

Yep - Deanna finally gets a job and Mike finally gets a LOVELY new TV
Then we had to make another trip to IKEA to buy (and then "build" of course) something to put it on (new rug too).

It looks good, right?

(mom - notice all the boxes are gone!)

This past week was Keira first experience with Montessori school. She had a great week! She got along very well with the other child (yep, only two kids and one teacher right now) and Miss Marla said she transitioned very easily into the Montessori routine. We are excited about this school for Keira. One of the best parts for me is picking her up at 4pm everyday (I leave work at ~3:55) and we are home by 4:20. Love it! Mike and I also have been trying to read to Keria more. That was something that we seemed to forget about in all the preparation and moving down here. We pulled out the old standby "Where the Sidewalk End" by Shel Silverstein. Right now Keira's favorite poems are "Spaghetti" (every time she see the picture she tells us that it is Curious George hiding under there), "Peanut Butter Sandwich" (it's her job to say "peanut butter sandwich at the end of each stanza) and "Lazy" (which she likes to 'read' on her own).
So in my 'free' time I have managed to be a little crafty. Yesterday I made the trek to JoAnn's (it's several miles north of us - wah!) and I recovered all the dining room chairs with new fabric. I've never done this before, but I have watched about 100 episodes of Trading Spaces, so I figured I was qualified. I dig them!

Here's a shot of Keira (on a phone book doing a puzzle) and Mike

I knit a hat this weekend too. One of my "e-friends" has a sister that is going to go through chemo and radiation and was looking for scarves and hats to donate to her. The sister's favorite color is green, so I picked up two balls of green cotton yarn and knit this lacey cap for her.

We are missing Haley lots, but I know she is having a great time in Florida. I wanted to post this picture of her because it's so "Haley"! While we were unpacking she grouped all her Barbie-type dolls together and asked me to take a group shot of them and her. She'll be back in a little over a week!

NHANES
The government is full of acronyms! Technically speaking, I am not a government employee. But since I am a contractor working at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) I'm going to need to learn quite a few. NHANES (pronounced n-hanes) is the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and it is an on-going project that I'll be working with.
Here's the Wikipedia for NHANES
The branch of the CDC that I am a part of is called IRAT (Inoragnic and Radiation Analytical Toxicology) which is under the division DLS (Division of Laboratory Sciences) which all falls under NCEH (National Center for Environmental Health).
Our work in IRAT for NHANES is to complete the inorganic (i.e. non biological stuff) laboratory testing of human samples (blood, urine and serum) collected from volunteers. The inorganics we are looking for are elements, such as arsenic, lead, cadmium, etc. We want to analytically determine the levels of these elements in the human samples because they are toxicologically important. The data is then reported back to the NCHS (National Center for Health Statistics).
Are you still awake?
p.s. I had a GREAT first week of work! I'm so thankful that my mom was here to play with and take care of my kids so I could focus on getting up each day and getting my butt out of the house.

Picture time!
I'm gonna post some pics from the past week or so. Hard to believe it's only been a week
The giant moving truck that came to take all our stuff away (minus the large gar

The last Friday Night Patio Party! (we missed lots of you!)

Haley and Keira in a little sports car with "OHIO" on the license plate. We were at a diner in Spartenburg, SC

Haley and Keira playing in the fountains at Centennial Olympic Park

After the fountains

Haley and Oscar during naptime at the hotel. Still the fluffy-loveable kitty!

And Greta is her usual aloof self!

Kitchen "before" shot on move-in day

Ack! Where does all this crap go?

Haley and Keira had a blast playing together with paper and boxes

Where's Haley?

Keira had so much fun that she laid her head down while I was eating my Hunan Chicken and fell asleep!

That's all for now folks. I start my new job in the AM

Unpacking blues
Hey look - we have the internets again, and cable TV too
Well everything arrived yesterday. Or at least it seems like everything....in fact, could they have dropped off a few extra boxes too???
All the furniture is fitting fine. I just don't know what to do with the 15 boxes of toys! I want the basement back.
FYI - we found both cats last night. Greta spent two hours exploring the scary and dirty crawlspace under the house, ick. Oscar spent some time outside and Mike found him near the back deck. They seem happy. There are three big dogs that live behind us. I'm sure Oscar is pleased to torture them just like every other dog he's ever met.
Time to go open another box....
